Seeking therapy can be a vulnerable process. The aim is to make it simpler and safer for people in marginalized communities.
THROUGH THE WOODS COUNSELING
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
I have my Master’s of Science in Couples and Family Therapy from the University of Oregon, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Hawaii. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (C7858) with the State of Oregon.
I began my mental health career at a residential treatment center for children recovering from abuse that integrated art and horseback-riding into its therapeutic approach. I have also worked on intensive in-home cases and community-based interventions through the Department of Health and local agencies in Hawaii. While in graduate school I gained additional experience facilitating parenting groups and counseling individuals reintegrating back into society after incarceration. I had the joy of working previously with a wide variety of people at the Looking Glass Counseling Center as well as the Center for Healthy Relationships through the University of Oregon. Post-graduation I spent two years working at Betts Psychiatric Clinic focusing on complex cases and clients with severe and multiple diagnoses. Most recently, before opening my own private practice, I worked at Insight Northwest Counseling for just over two years where I focused on couples counseling, college transitions, and multicultural populations.
I have a wide range of previous life experience from working at a fashion magazine in advertising, to the corporate financial sector, to being a preschool teacher and so much more in between. Being a therapist is my utmost passion and certainly my long-term career.
